Activities

I didn't think April would compete w/March, but it's doing a pretty good job. The month began with participating in The Texas Library Conference, Houston, with The Final Twist Writers. Eight writers participated with varied genres. We were received in a grand way by librarians from ALL OVER.

I had an interview up at Dames of Dialog and the moderators asked great questions. This was followed with a speaking engagement to the Writer's Guild at the YMCA in Alvin. They were a great group and hungered for information on the road to publishing. It was great to see sincere interest from writers on how they could improve their work and there was some talent there, believe me.

All I want to do now is be at home at least until Easter Sunday and maybe get back to my WIP.

I wish all a Blessed Easter.

Stormy weather

Stormy weather sounds like a song, but it's much more in Texas these days. We need the rain, but enough lightning and threat of tornadoes.

Has anyone read Broken Window by Jeffery Deaver? Comments??

I'm suffering from not having time to work on my WIP. The dismal weather lends creativity, but too much else is happening. It's difficult to spread your time b/n emails, promotion, social networks, etc. I have been trying to narrow the promotion down to one day a week, but here lately can't seem to manage it--it seems to cover my days. Social networks are another matter--hard to keep a balance b/n all of it. Any ideas appreciated.

Bye for now. Just wanted to pop in for a quick note.

Beautiful days of Spring

It's hard to keep 'you know what' in the chair these days when all the leaves and flowers are budding. It's my favorite time of the year and it's also when new ideas and projects come into focus.

At the moment, I am concentrating on joining The Final Twist Writers in the Texas Library Association's 2009 Conference, George R. Brown Convention Center, Houston, Texas. We will be in Booth 1744, April 1-3, 2009. We have a multitude of wonderful authors who will be available for signing books in various genres. If you are in the area, come by and see us.

I am also working on an interview with Dames of Dialogue. Check out their blog when you get a chance at http://damesofdialogue.tripod.com/damesofdialogueblog.

My New Year's resolution was to be a better blogger, but life comes in and kicks up its heels. I want to discuss some of the great books I've read recently--The Two Marys, Broken Window (Jeffery Deaver), but it will have to wait until the Library Conference is over.

Good writing and good fun to all of you.

AUTHORS PROMOTING AUTHORS

I tried and tried to post yesterday, but had trouble w/my connection...cyberspace!!

My newest release, DECEPTIVE CLARITY, is now up at Authors Promoting Authors: -
http://authorspromotingauthors.blogspot.com/2009/01/deceptive-clarity-betty-gordon.html

This group is doing a great job of promoting writers with a somewhat unusual concept. As each new post is made, that author is asked to put the previous author on his blog. In this case, I urge you to check out Ryan Sherwood's REVENANTS: FALLEN SAVIOR at:
http://authorspromotingauthors.blogspot.com/2009/01/revenants-fallen-savior-ryan-sherwood.html

I want to congratulate all the authors who did so well on the Preditors & Editors Poll recently. My publisher, L&L Dreamspell, came in as No. 2 in the anthology category and their submitted authors scored nicely.

NEW EVENT COMING UP FOR THE FINAL TWIST WRITERS. Some of this organization's authors are participating in the Texas Library Conference, March 31 - April 3, 2009, at George R. Brown Convention Center in Houston, Texas. We will be in Booth #1744, Made-up Mayhem, and invite all to join us for this great event.

Closing for now...good reading and good writing!

New release

I'm celebrating my new release, DECEPTIVE CLARITY, which I hope will be good reading for all of you. I posted a book trailer on my website, click 'view full screen' and you'll get an idea what it's all about. In the meantime, here's a little info: -

International intrique is set in motion when an importer/exporter of Egyptian antiquities goes missing.
Lisa Martin, a gutsy P.I., along with a sexy investigator and shrewd journalist, get entangled in a journey filled with suspicious characters and death threats - a journey that radiates from Houston to Cairo, Rome and London. They soon discover there's much more to this antiquity dealer than Egyptian relics.
A maze of deception, danger, and suspense sprinkled with spicy romance is deftly woven into the fabric of DECEPTIVE CLARITY.

It's available with the usual suspects...Amazon, Barnes & Noble, etc. See website for additional details.

January is starting off with a bang. Time passes too fast. I used to hear my mother say this happened as you got older and she was right. I need to slow down the years so I can get everything done I want to.

I didn't mean to make this post about me, me, me, but right now promoting the new book is taking most of my time. I did, however, post to the Clarity of Night contest and am working on a new story for L&L Dreamspell's new anthology. Final conclusion, I need a publicist.

Bye for now and good writing to all.

Holiday Greetings

Hello All.

December 5th...almost two months since I last posted. I hope all of you have recovered from Ike. My husband and I are still struggling w/debris removal since we lost more than half of our trees. Our home is situated in a wooded area and we still have a lot of trees, but it is sad to lost a lot of the old ones. A crew from sunny Florida is coming today with much needed help.

One of my books, MURDER IN THE THIRD PERSON, is currently posted on Authors Promoting Authors and I'd like to pass along information on a novel, JUST A MEMORY, by Lois Carroll. I tried to copy the material showing the cover, but the site didn't cooperate, so I'm typing the material for your information: -

"Start with a widow who avoids getting involved with men so she and her young daughter won't be hurt again if they leave as her husband did by dying.
"-Have her feel fear as a victim of a burglary.
"Add a hardened cop to investigate who's never allowed himself to be involved with any woman because his job would put her in jeopardy.
"-Blend the issues with an unlikely but strong attraction between them.
"-Sprinkle with a small-town false sense of security.
"-Fold in a hirred gun from the hero's unfinished past.
"-Spice with a manhunt.
"-Let the mixture heat up when she thinks her time with him to be forever just a memory."
Buy at Barnes & Noble.com, Amazon.com
Visit Lois Carroll's blog

I hope you will join me in wishing Lois well with this novel--it sounds intriguing.

I am in the process of getting information on my newest work, DECEPTIVE CLARITY, which will be released on December 27, 2008. It is a tale laced with deception, danger, suspense, sprinkled with spicy romance. International intrigue is set in motion when an importer-exporter of Egyptian antiquities goes missing.
More information on my website, www.bettygordon.com

I hope you all enjoyed the Thanksgiving holiday and are not wearing yourselves out with Christmas shopping. I absolutely enjoy everything connected with the holidays -- even the shopping. I wish you and yours a joyous holiday season.

In spite of the debris and other holiday duties, I am still working away on my third novel which I hope to finish before too many more weeks.

I treated myself to a Christmas gift this year--a Kindle and I love it. It won't stop me from buying traditional books, but it is great to carry to various appointments and read as you wait.

I hope you will check out Authors Promoting Authors.

Bye for now.

Anthology Launch, Oct. 10th, Katy Budget Books

The Final Twist Society eagerly awaits our second anthology launch, "A Death in Texas" at Katy Budget Books, 2450 Fry Rd., Katy, Texas, October 10th, 5 - 8 pm. Sixteen authors and fifteen murders lay in wait at the bookstore. The stories are loaded with humor and suspense and promise to give your detective skills a workout.

We have an interesting group of authors, aspiring writers, readers, librarians, reviewers, publicists, editors, and publishers from the Houston area. We meet once a month to promote reading, support our authors, generally inspire our members and end up having a great time.

Join us on the first Saturday of each month (except July and December), 10 am, Old Town Spring, at Earth's Spirits in Court deBelle, Old Town Spring

See you on the 10th of October and keep reading and writing.
